What is Workers' Compensation?

Workers’ compensation is a system which provides medical payments, lost time and permanent disability benefits for employees hurt while at work and sometimes extends prior to and after work.

What is your employer’s responsibility?

It is the employer’s responsibility to pay for reasonable medical care for an employee’s work-related injury or disease. This includes necessary first aid and emergency services, and treating physicians, surgeons and hospitals of your choice. The employer is also required to pay for necessary physical, mental, and vocational rehabilitation treatment programs that assist in the employee’s recovery and return to work.

  • Back injuries
  • Neck injuries
  • Sight and hearing loss
  • Heart attack

It also includes injuries sustained by repetitive use of a part of the body such as repetitive stress disorders and carpal tunnel syndrome. Pre-existing conditions which are aggravated by your employment may also be covered.

What should you do if you are injured at work?
